Tumour organoids: A precision oncology tool?

Published Alicia Mew on

VCCC Alliance Precision Oncology Forum

Tumour organoids are an in vitro patient-derived model type that has taken off in recent years. They are an important research tool, but what about as a precision medicine opportunity?

18 October 2024

Can we use tumour organoids to predict individual patient response to therapy? In this October forum, A/Prof Kylie Gorringe and Anshini Jain will explore organoids as a research and clinical methodology.

This session will explore organoids as a research and clinical methodology. A/Prof Kylie Gorringe and Anshini Jain will look first at mucinous ovarian carcinoma as a cancer type where organoids are being used for a number of different research questions, including drug screening.

They will then share information about a trial in peritoneal cancers where the ultimate goal is to return results to clinicians in time to influence treatment. They will explore the potential but also the challenges of organoids in precision medicine.

This hybrid event is part of the VCCC Alliance Precision Oncology Forum series. These multi-disciplinary forums provide opportunities to discuss new research topics in Precision Oncology, as well as interesting and novel cases illustrating the clinical implications of molecular pathology and targeted therapies.

Cases are discussed on an individual, de-identified basis.
