Rethinking challenging clinician-patient encounters

VCCC Alliance Leadership Academy Series

Presented by Associate Professor Lesley Stafford

This webinar invites the cancer workforce to reframe their approach to ‘the challenging patient’ and rethink the language used in and around these encounters.

Featuring a presentation by Associate Professor Lesley Stafford of the University of Melbourne and Royal Melbourne Hospital, attendees will leave clinicians and consumers with new insight into what makes us perceive a clinical encounter as ‘difficult’ and an appreciation of the factors that contribute to these situations.

The example of patients who decline conventional therapy in favour of alternative therapy will be used to illustrate the point about separating the person from the problem. The role of self-awareness, reflection and empathy in managing challenging clinician-patient encounters will also be explored.

The webinar will conclude with a Q&A session where attendees will have the opportunity to gain further insights and knowledge on this important topic.
