Dr Julia Lai-Kwon discusses the design and qualitative evaluation of the Master of Cancer Sciences, a wholly online, multidisciplinary Masters degree developed in conjunction between the VCCC Alliance and the University of Melbourne.
Australia’s first cancer-specific, multidisciplinary, innovative and wholly online program
The Master of Cancer Sciences has been designed to enhance and update cancer care practitioners’ knowledge of the rapidly evolving fields of clinical care and cancer research.
The first part of the talk discusses the development of the program, including its theoretical and pedagogical underpinnings. Describing how this translated into the unique online educational environment using infographics, educational videos and gamification.
The second part discusses the qualitative evaluation of the Masters, which sought to assess the impact of the degree on career trajectory and professional practice. This approach sought to understand a broader range of impacts beyond short term knowledge and skill acquisition, including distal outcomes at the individual, patient and healthcare system levels.
Using the Kirkpatrick’s Typology of Educational Outcomes, this webinar discusses emergent themes and provides real-world examples of how the Masters has impacted career trajectory and professional practice.
